The Grand Opening for Wonder Works is today! This “amusement park for the mind” is located at Broadway at the Beach, in a 50,000 sq ft building that has the appearance of having landed upside down. The concept of this museum is to combine education with entertainment. There are over 100 mind-stimulating, hands-on exhibits to engage visitors of all ages and interests. Here are just a few of the exciting things that you will be able experience at Wonder Works; being in control of landing a NASA space shuttle, climbing 3 stories of a challenging black-light rope obstacle courses, being blown away by 74 mile per hour hurricane winds, lying on a bed of nails, and much more. At one of the exhibits you get to not only design your own 360 degree virtual roller coaster, but then you get to ride it! After all of this fun and exploring, grab a bite to eat. The cafe and bar will seat 200 guests both inside and out; offering pizza, sandwiches, salads and more. Wonder Works is also offering the option of group gatherings from birthday parties to company outings, with their private meeting room seating 100 guests.
Outside of WonderWorks is Soar and Explore Zipline and Ropes Course, which opened in 2010. On Myrtle Beach’s only zipline, you will soar 50 feet over Lake Broadway. The ropes course is a fun pirate theme, and made up of over 3,000 ropes, and 33 different challenges and obstacles including; a tremor bridge, tight rope walk, swinging stairs, and more! Here, you will be able to test your skills and strength by climbing your way to 40 feet. Fun for all ability levels, and offering all of the challenge and competition that you need. Both WonderWorks and Soar Explore are open everyday at 12:00. These are definitely two stops that you should make on your family vacation to the Grand Strand.

After 15 years of successfully entertaining visitors and locals in the Grand Strand, this area family-favorite has moved. Legends in Concert is now located at the Broadway at the Beach area in Myrtle Beach, next to Planet Hollywood. We are so excited to check out the new show-stopping features that Legends has in store for us. With over $1 million in renovations and upgrades, you will feel like you have stepped into a Las Vegas showroom when you enter this state of the art entertainment facility. The new theater will now accommodate an audience of 600 guests. The projected stage is designed with seating on three sides, so that each guest will be within 50 feet of the stage, and there isn’t a bad seat in the house. You won’t miss a beat with the new side stage monitors, everyone will have an amazing view of the show. If you want to feel like a VIP, nearly 50 seats will be available as VIP table booths. The retractable chandeliers, production lighting, and LED lights add the perfect touch to the fabulous entertainers.
 The opening show that debuted on March 17th, was a smash hit. You should expect the same amazing tribute performers such as Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, Jay Leno, Blues Brothers, and much more. The new location is a perfect addition to the surrounding Myrtle Beach area. Performances will be held Monday through Saturday at 8pm, with an additional 2:00 matinee on Tuesdays. Call ahead for tickets and seating, or purchase from the Legends in Concert website.  Ahoy matey! There is a new and exciting adventure sailing into Myrtle Beach this summer. After 19 years of crowd pleasing entertainment, on December 31st, we said good-bye to one of the Grand Strand’s favorite attractions; the Dixie Stampede, as they performed for the last time. The former Dixie Stampede has taken on an $11 million transformation, and after much renovation, on June 3, 2011 will become Pirates Voyage. Owner, Dolly Parton has decided to give the returning, as well as new, vacationers something new and exciting to look forward to when they visit Myrtle Beach on their family vacation. This Fun, Feast, and Adventure will feature a buccaneer battle with a pirate’s feast. They will keep you involved in the theme, and having an unforgettable time from the moment you arrive. They even have something planned for us outside, where there are lagoons for the pre-show area. As you enter, you will see the enormous 750,000 gallon lagoon, complete with full size pirate ships, and battling pirates. The pirates will perform nightly, with acrobatics on the ships, in the water, and in the air. Encouraging guests to cheer on their own pirate team, will keep you involved throughout the show. One of our favorite features of the former Dixie Stampede show, was the delicious feast that complemented the amazing entertainment. You will be pleased to know that this has stayed the same, and you will still be served up a mouth-watering pirate feast!
Hope you landlubbers are hungry! Voyager Creamy Vegetable Soup, Buccaneer Bread, Half O’ Roasted Crackler (Chicken), BBQ Pork Shank, Crispy Fried Shrimp, Cob O’ Buttery Corn, Mashed and Flogged Taters, and Apple O’ Me Eye Pie for dessert…Yum!
For many of the locals, and returning vacationers to the Grand Strand, this is a bittersweet moment. We hate to see such a longtime family favorite leave Myrtle Beach, but we are so excited to check out what they have in store for us. There will be 1,000 seats for spectators in the audience, but call ahead to reserve your seating because this is going to be a “must see” for vacationers to the Grand Strand this year. You don’t want to be left “walking the plank”!

In May 2011 there will be a new way to view the Myrtle Beach scene, like never before. Have you ever wondered what the coastline looks like from hundreds of feet in the air? Now you will be able to see for yourself. Located at the Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade, will be the new SkyWheel. This unique 200 foot observation wheel will include 42 gondolas. Each six passenger gondola will be temperature controlled, and enclosed with UV protective and non-reflective glass. Also equipped with LCD monitors and an intercom system, they have thought of everything to make your ride as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Each ride will last eight to twelve minutes, which is plenty of time to take in those breathtaking views of the serene Atlantic Ocean on one side, or bustling Myrtle Beach on the other. The SkyWheel will be open daily, with flights available both day and night. Each night they will hold spectacular LED light shows starting just after sunset. If you would like to go all out, try the VIP gondola; with leather seats, glass floors, and a champagne bucket. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture this amazing view. A few of the things that make this wheel so special are that the SkyWheel is the first observation wheel of its kind in the United States, and largest wheel of any kind on the East Coast.
SkyWheel is also teaming up with the owners of Margaritaville, to bring us LandShark Bar & Grill and LandShark Surfshack, which will be located beside the SkyWheel. LandShark Bar & Grill will be bringing us a casual and fun atmosphere, excellent food, refreshing drinks, and exciting entertainment. The Surfshack will offer great gifts and SkyWheel souvenirs. So after experiencing the one of a kind breathtaking view of the Myrtle Beach coastline; grab a bite to eat, while relaxing in the warm ocean breeze, and listening to some beach music. If you haven’t checked out the new Boardwalk yet, this is the summer to do so. For the past 58 years, Myrtle Beach has been kicking off the summer with the Sun Fun Festival. This festival, always located in different venues throughout the Myrtle Beach area, recently relocated to the Grand Park at the Market Common. This year the popular festival will be held June 4th from 5p.m. – 9p.m., and June 5th from 10a.m. – 9p.m. The festival is located just a short distance from your stay in Garden City and Surfside Beach.
Some of the things that you will find at this year’s Sun Fun Festival are live entertainment, celebrity meet and greets, Kids Zone, arts/crafts and food vendors, jet ski demonstrations, and fireworks. What makes this festival even more wonderful, is that it is free admission to all of the entertainment.
Here is the weekend lineup:
Friday will consist of two wonderful musical talents. The Castaways will be playing their “Beach, Soul, and Rock-n-Roll” tunes on the Main Stage from 5:30 p.m. – 6:45 p.m., followed by the band known for “feeling the mood of the audience”, Too Much Sylvia from 7:45 p.m. – 9p.m.
H2X Racing’s APBA National Jet Ski Championships will include personal watercraft racing and freestyle competitions. This event will be held beachfront between Damon’s Grill at 2985 S. Ocean Blvd., and Springmaid Beach Resort at 3200 S. Ocean Blvd.
On Saturday, the Sun Fun Festival will offer food, as well as arts and crafts vendors all day on both sides of the lake. The Kid’s Zone, featuring games, inflatables, and fun for the little ones, will be set up near the playground from 10a.m. – 5p.m.
If you venture to the lake, located in the middle of all of the festivities, you will find even more entertainment. Throughout the day there will be demonstrations of wakeboarding presented by Carolina Wake Sports, and Jet Skiing presented by H2X Racing 2007 Jet Ski US National Champion.
The day will begin with Character Meet and Greets for the kids in Tent #3 from 10a.m. – 2p.m. Here your child can meet the one and only Dora the Explorer from Nick Jr., or Nicktoon’s LastAirbender’s “Avatar”. The Celebrity Meet and Greet will begin in Tent #1, where you can meet Guiding Light’s Kim Zimmer from 10a.m. – 1p.m. Stop by Tent #2 for another Celebrity Meet and Greet with Booboo Stewart from the Twilight Saga: Eclipse from 12p.m. – 3p.m. Sterling Knight “Chad” from Sonny with a Chance, will end the Meet and Greet in Tent #1 from 2p.m. – 5p.m.
On Market Common’s Main Stage, you will find great entertainment by well-known artists. The Platinum Band will kickoff the concert series, with their vast array of musical genres, playing from 10a.m. – 11p.m. The Craig Woolard Band will follow from 12p.m. – 1p.m. The “yesteryear with a modern spin”, Necessary Band will energize the stage from 2p.m. – 3p.m. Don’t go far because the crowd-pleasing Tru Sol Band will be hitting the stage from 4p.m. – 5p.m, followed by Superglide rocking the 70’s and 80’s from 6p.m. – 7p.m. Then National Recording Artist, Uncle Kracker will hit the stage from 8p.m. – 10p.m.
